His Story

A storyteller rooted in logic and creativity.

O’Derrick Michaels is a storyteller rooted in both logic and creativity. Originally from Montgomery, Alabama, and now residing in Atlanta, Georgia, he has built a successful career as a Software Engineer and QA Strategist, while never losing sight of his artistic spirit.

From an early age, O’Derrick found his voice through songwriting and poetry, using words as a way to express emotion, perspective, and truth. Over time, that passion evolved into writing short stories, where he discovered a deep love for storytelling and the power of narrative. His work is inspired by the belief that art mirrors life, drawing from real experiences to create authentic, relatable stories.

His debut novel, Brandon’s Afro Magic, is a children’s story that highlights themes of inner strength, courage, and confidence-building. While written with children in mind, the story carries a universal message that resonates with readers of all ages and backgrounds.

Driven by both passion and purpose, O’Derrick founded Nona Michaels Publishing LLC, a name that carries deep personal meaning. It is a tribute to the shared journey between him and his mother, his lifelong inspiration and unwavering supporter.

Through his writing, O’Derrick aims to connect, inspire, and bring stories to life that resonate with the human experience.

In His Own Words

Why I Write

I write to pour into others the same encouragement that was once poured into me. Growing up, I was taught to be true to myself and to never dim my light, and that lesson stayed with me.

I want my work to remind people, especially those still finding their voice, that who they are is powerful. That their identity, their story, and their uniqueness are not just beautiful, they are meaningful.

My books are also written for parents, families, and dreamers, to create moments of connection, conversation, and affirmation. In a world full of noise, I want to offer something that speaks life. Something that tells you that you are enough, just as you are.

Because when someone believes in themselves, everything changes.
